Pu-erh - Pomelo Small - Vintage 1997
A unique offering, the pu-erh tea is mixed with the inside fruit and is then packed into the rind of the Chinese pomelo fruit. The pomelo is a citrus fruit that resembles a grapefruit. The packed rind is then bound with wire, and slow dried over a hearth. The dried fruits are then allowed to age in carefully controlled environments that help to bring out the complexity of the tea, while mellowing the sharpness of the flavors. The tea is rich and earthy, with bright citrus notes that you can enhance by adding some of the rind to the brew. Approx. .5-.75 lb.
To brew the tea, carefully remove the wire using pliers, remove the lid of the fruit, and pry some of the leaves from the tea-pack inside. Due to the age of this pomelos, the tea can be hard and packed tightly, so we recommend the use of one of our pu-erh knives, (see accessories). Carefully rinse the leaves before you brew to drink, and then the leaves can be used for numerous infusions.
